This May we are releasing three new wines: our Rosé (a blend), a Tempranillo, and a Syrah. Along with new wines, we have another big change: new labels!
Designing a New Look
Last fall, we invited Sara Nelson, a talented graphic designer from the Tri-Cities, to our downtown tasting room. Sara has years of professional experience designing striking wine labels, so when our local printing company recommended her, we were excited to meet her and develop a new look for Walla Faces. After one brainstorming meeting, Sara set to work planning our makeover!
Our new labels were an opportunity to create a bold new presentation for Walla Faces, and we definitely took advantage of that–the new labels are both contemporary and sophisticated. At the same time, it was important to us to remain true to our roots, and for us, that meant Candice Johnson’s beautiful artwork had to remain front-and-center on the bottles. In the tasting room, we hear stories every week of people who put empty Walla Faces bottles on display because they can’t bear to discard Candice’s art. We made sure that the new labels gave Candice’s faces the full exposure they deserved.
Sara provided us with lots of options, in many shapes and sizes. We worked back and forth with her a few times, suggesting changes and picking our favorites. We hoped to create something modern, classy, and graphic, while still highlighting the artwork that gives us our name.
By the end, we had two favorites, and we couldn’t quite settle on one, so we turned to someone else for a second opinion: our guests! Over the recent Spring Release weekend in Walla Walla (May 2nd – 4th), when our town and wineries were flooded with tasters and wine enthusiasts, we passed out comment cards to our guests in the tasting rooms and asked them to vote on which design they liked more.
When Spring Release Weekend was over, a clear winner had emerged. To see it, however, you’ll have to read on!
…and a New Logo
The labels weren’t the only thing Sara designed for us.
In addition to new labels, Sara and her team put their heads together and designed a new logo for Walla Faces! Our last logo was designed early in Faces’ life, and while we love its bright colors and sense of whimsy, we felt it was time for something new.
Selecting a new logo from the wide variety of creative designs Sara made for us was no small task. After all, this logo wasn’t only going to represent Walla Faces wine–it would also be used for our hotels as well! We had to find a logo that was both iconic and versatile, and after a little deliberation, we settled on the new look of Walla Faces. It’s bold, monochromatic, and easy on the eyes, and we think you’ll like it as much as we do!
Ready to see the new face of Walla Faces? Here are the labels for our new releases:
Of course, in addition to our sleek new logo, each wine label will feature its own personal character and face by Candice Johnson. After all, that’s part of who we are at Walla Faces.
A New Face for a New Chapter
These new labels and new logo signify a new chapter at Walla Faces, representing both the new wines and the new team of winemakers—Rick Johnson, Victor de la Luz, and consulting winemaker Chris Camarda–who crafted our new releases. Walla Faces is moving in bold new directions, and we’re excited to see what the future holds.
Ready to get your hands on a bottle with this new look? Wine club members will receive bottles with the new labels in their spring shipment–and if you’re not a member, consider joining! Otherwise, you can come by one of our tasting rooms or order our new wines online to see (and taste) for yourself!
