Once upon a time, long, long ago,
this adventure began.....
Think back....summer 1975
Gerald Ford was President, the Doobie Brothers were on the radio and Jaws was the hit movie of the summer. Rick Johnson, resplendent in long hair and beard, was off to Europe on a three-month fellowship to study European art and architecture. Rick was determined to see the world, and in the process discovered wine. As a young man traveling through Europe, he said to himself, “what a perfect life it would be to live on a vineyard, make wonderful wine and be surrounded by beautiful art”. It was a notion that was quickly put aside when he returned from his studies abroad. The reality of work and responsibilities at home put his dream on hold.

Fast forward...summer 1999
Bill Clinton was President, Pearl Jam was on the radio, and The Matrix was the hit movie of the summer. Rick met Debbie Higgins online that summer and their union created another success story for love@aol.com! Rick and Debbie married on the eve of the Millennium, with a commitment to share the 21st century together. On their honeymoon they talked about their future together. They also talked about their past hopes and dreams. It was in that conversation that Rick remembered his dream of making wine and living on a vineyard. Debbie loved the dream, and made it her own. Together they began to make that dream a reality.

The search was on for the perfect vineyard property
Rick and Debbie traveled from the California to Canadian borders looking for that perfect property. After five long years they finally discovered their dream vineyard in the beautiful town of Walla Walla, Washington.
The fulfillment of the dream has taken a long and complex path. However, traveling that path together, Rick and Debbie have discovered they are a great team! Each partner has unique skills that complement the other. Rick is the dreamer, the visionary, and very true to his Pisces sign. Debbie is the finance person, the sounding board and implementer. The sum of their skills creates a greater whole. It is on this very notion that they have built the foundation for Walla Faces.
Walla Faces is the sum of many parts: Wine. Inns. Art. It’s Rick and Debbie’s passion for sharing all they have between them, with all those who come through their door.
